We’re thrilled to share that Jnr. and Clockwork Films have been named three-time finalists at the Aotearoa Effie Awards for our Rotorua Robe Trip campaign. A huge nod to the creativity, craft, and collaboration that made this work stand out and be celebrated for the most important goal in advertising – Effectiveness.
Proud to see bold ideas and brilliant teamwork getting the recognition they deserve.
Pack your fluffiest robe, Rotorua NZ’s latest campaign is here! Directed by Steve Saussey, with stunning photography by Sophie Miya Smith, and crafted alongside the creative minds at Jnr., this spot brings a fresh, playful spin to travel.
With Rotorua Mayor Tania Tapsell making her acting debut, the two-day shoot was filled with fun, adventure, and, of course, plenty of robes.

Q: Shooting in Rotorua must have been an incredible experience. Can you share some standout moments from the two-day shoot?
EP Tim: We felt so blessed to be invited to work on this campaign by Indie agency jnr. Rotorua is a magical place to visit and work, we felt welcomed from the get-go by the client and local crew (who were outstanding).
Working with Tania Tapsell, the Rotorua mayor, was a definite highlight – she is such a natural on camera, a total one-take-wonder. Tristan who plays Tania’s awkwardly robed up security guard was also a hoot on set, with lots of what you see coming from his improv.
Working with such an epic seasoned comedy director like Steve Saussey was a real coup for the campaign, and a major highlight. As well as stylish new stills photographer Sophie Miya-Smith.
We also nearly got to sneak Jason Momoa into one of our scenes, however sadly his schedule didn’t align with ours at the last minute.

Q: Humor and lighthearted storytelling play a big role in this spot. Why do you think this approach is so effective for a destination like Rotorua?
EP Tim: Rotorua, like many tourism regions, took a pretty big hit after Covid, with perceptions of the region and tourist numbers falling dramatically. I think the idea of having a luxury couples getaway is just the tip of the iceberg, reintroducing people to the region to chill, pop on a plush robe and enjoy all the premium activities available.
That said, jnr. also wanted to give a sense of fun to the integrated campaign. This is reflected both in the light-hearted concept of the film, as well as the high-end editorial style still imagery.
As Tania says, “who ever had a bad time wearing a fluffy robe and some little slippers?”
