Sure, when you get a brief to shoot in Fiji everyone gets a bit excited. So many offers from people to ‘attend’ the shoot as runner, production assistant, water carrier, continuity person, wardrobe assistant, falling coconut safety officer, etc. However when you are a week from departure and the cyclone warning is growing in probability like the cyclone itself, suddenly people were less keen.
Weather experts, heads of departments and client were all consulted and it was decided we should head to Fiji to shoot as planned. With a very experienced crew, a pragmatic and nimble approach we were able to capture fabulous images and create some beautiful films in and around Cyclone Mal. And nobody copped a coconut on the head.
