ROR Film and NorthRose Pictures have unveiled Winnie the-Pooh in the City, a new live-action/CGI family adventure inspired by A.A. Milne’s stories and the original stuffed animals at the New York Public Library. The film, expected to bow during the 2027 holiday season, was announced during a visit to the library by Queen Camilla and Jim Cummings, renowned for voicing Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger. Cummings will bring new interpretations of both characters in the upcoming feature.
Produced by Brigham Taylor, Jill Murray North, and Jonathan Sharpe, Winnie-the-Pooh in the City sees Taylor (The Jungle Book, Christopher Robin) return to the world of Winnie-the Pooh with a fresh take on the beloved characters. Executive producers include Jamie Cohen (Clockwork Films), Tom Goodall, and Emily Rose, with the latest script draft by Alex Ross Perry (Christopher Robin). Range Media Partners is representing the title.
In the film, Winnie-the-Pooh and his Hundred Acre Wood friends leave their display at the New York Public Library, joining a bright but lonely young girl on a heartwarming adventure through New York City during the holidays. Together, they help her discover that growing up doesn’t mean letting go of the untamed spirit and wonder of childhood, but finding the courage to share it with the world.
In a striking convergence of life and art, Cummings, whose credits include more than 22 Academy Award-nominated films, such as The Lion King and Aladdin, was a surprise guest of Queen Camilla at the NYPL display of Christopher Robin’s original stuffed animals. The Queen gifted the library a specially commissioned Roo toy, reuniting the Hundred Acre Wood friends after the original Roo was lost in the 1930s. Cummings then delighted children in attendance by bringing Winnie-the-Pooh to life during a reading, previewing his new portrayal of the character in Winnie-the-Pooh in the City, shaped more closely by Milne’s own interpretation of the lovable bear.
Reflecting on the film, Cummings said, “I am so proud and happy to have this opportunity to bring these beautiful characters back to life. Milne’s creations were truly timeless, and to build the story around the original stuffed animals that Christopher Robin played with is special. On a personal note, I have voiced Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger for many years, and this is unlike anything I have ever done before.”
The convergence of Cummings’ personal journey with these characters and the NYPL event underscores the creative ethos behind Winnie-the-Pooh in the City. Producer Brigham Taylor said, “Pooh’s gentle wisdom and poignant simplicity are timeless, and bringing that spirit to a new generation ensures it continues to resonate in a world that needs it just as much as ever. This film is being crafted with meticulous care while remaining true to Milne’s original spirit.”
The film will blend innovative visual effects with the warm, gentle humor that has made Winnie-the-Pooh an enduring treasure for a century.
